Amber huett-Garcia

Amber Huett-Garcia's early career focused on state health, policy, and budget roles, managing over $13 billion in K-12 funds for former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. After moving to Memphis in 2011, she began her teaching career in Memphis as a third-grade teacher at Ross Elementary. After teaching, she spent more than seven years at Teach For America, where she held responsibilities ranging from overseeing large-scale operations for a teacher training program to managing corporate and foundation fundraising.

From there, she served as a policy advisor in Shelby County’s Office of Education before working as a senior director of non-academic support strategy for one million K-12 students at the Tennessee Department of Education.

In 2022, Amber was elected to serve on the Memphis-Shelby County School Board, representing District 8, which includes northern Shelby County and East Memphis.

Amber is a global leader in obesity care, serving as a member of the World Obesity Federation’s Board of Trustees and representing the lived experience perspective. She is a founding director of the Global Obesity Patient Alliance (GOPA), where she represents the United States in building capacity for obesity-related patient advocacy organizations worldwide.

When she's not working or volunteering, Amber enjoys spending time with her daughter, traveling, cooking, listening to live music, and exercising.
